New Cadets FAQ

Questions New Cadets Usually Ask

This section answers some of the most common questions cadets and families have before joining. It’s designed to make the first step feel clearer, easier, and more exciting.

No. New cadets are welcomed and guided through the program step by step. You are not expected to know drill, wear a uniform properly, or already understand the system before arriving.
Expect to walk into a completely new environment that operates within a military-style hierarchy. Your senior cadets will guide you through the basics, where everything is, including classrooms, parade square, and washrooms. They will also explain the format of training nights and what you can expect in class as you get started.
Simply put, we aim to be the best. 2754 RCACC prides itself on strong leadership, high standards, professionalism, and a team environment that pushes cadets to grow, improve, and take pride in what they do.
Uniforms are issued to cadets at no cost. Cadets are expected to take care of their uniform and wear it properly once issued.
That is completely normal. Many cadets join not knowing anyone. The team environment, shared activities, and structured training make it easier to meet people and feel part of the corps over time.
Yes. Cadets can take part in marksmanship training, but safety and qualification always come first. Cadets are taught proper safety procedures and must learn how to handle equipment correctly before shooting the Daisy air rifle. As cadets progress and depending on opportunities available, additional marksmanship experiences may open up through advanced training and team participation.
Yes. 2754 offers opportunities beyond regular training, including a marksmanship team, band, and drill team. These teams allow cadets to develop specialized skills, challenge themselves further, and represent the corps in competitions, performances, and special events.
Yes. Cadets take part in leadership development, fitness, drill, citizenship, field exercises, team activities, ceremonial opportunities, and other experiences throughout the year.
Absolutely. Cadets is serious in its standards, but it is also a place for friendships, challenges, memorable experiences, outdoor training, special events, and moments you will look back on with pride.
Absolutely not. The Cadet Program is built around many of the same values, structure, discipline, and fundamentals associated with the Canadian Armed Forces, but there is no obligation or requirement to join the military after cadets. The program is about youth development, leadership, citizenship, confidence, and personal growth.
Mistakes are part of learning. New cadets are not expected to be perfect. What matters most is effort, attitude, willingness to improve, and showing respect for the training environment.
Yes. As cadets gain experience, they can grow into greater responsibility and leadership roles. That long-term development is one of the strongest parts of the program.
